Birthday Round 4

You got it! The Philadelphia Zoo!
Emma's actual Birthday spent at the zoo! It was a beautiful day and we had fun! The troops!
(I think this is the last summer for this stroller! These two kids put together are heavyyyy!)

The hot air balloon that you can ride on for only $50!!!

The reptile/amphibian house was pretty cool. Below is an American Alligator -- waaay bigger than the crocs! Emma did not want to go for a swim with this guy. She did though put her face about one inch away from all the poisonous snakes (the glass of course!) I did like the sign posted that said, "Please do not tap on the glass. It harms the animals blah blah blah... Besides, what would you do if the glass broke?"

Humongous tortoises are always fun to watch. This guy was next to the pig-nosed turtle. This was interesting because before I saw the name of the turtle I said something to the effect that this turtle looks like a pig! The pig-nosed turtle was my second fav animal of the day. My favorite animal of the day was the Bearded Pig - we saw him last and sorry, we don't have pictures of them. It was so wrong --- a big grey beard on these big, old fat pigs! I was asking Phil, what sort of natural selection trait was needed for them to get this beard and actually keep it? (maybe that is why this pig is "protected" at the zoo? I am wondering if we are "saving" some animals that would have naturally died out?)

The big elephants! Always a favorite... They are actually leaving the zoo indefinitely soon. Lukas had fun looking at the elephants with the binoculars.

This is a Sloth Bear. NOT to be confused with the Bear sloth which is a totally different animal. (And now I am wondering if I said it the correct way?)

Cute kiddos by the snow leopard!

Otters - photos not so great. These swimmers are fun to watch!

Our Family!
Lukie was looking forward to the giraffes... to see how long their necks were. By the way, did you know that the giraffe's tongue is black because they think it helps protect it from sunburn? One of the giraffes was reaching for leaves on a tree and it was an amazing length...

The penguins turned out to be Luke's favorite! The zookeeper was feeding fish to them.

The Monkey house was fun. Gorillas are amazing and below are the Orangutans. The zookeeper came out and hid all their food. Then they were let out into the area and they found it all! One carried a box around and put the food in it when he found it! Smart! There he is below!

That was our zoo trip! Next time we have to check out what is happening in Philadelphia because it was crazy and tons of bicyclists. All the roads the GPS wanted us to go on... closed! A nice policeman helped us out!
That was indeed the final round. Unless of course, you count Chuck E Cheese which we are doing for lunch this weekend! (The sticker charts we had this time were for making better decisions regarding tv, computer, wii time... the less we did with all that, the more stickers we got daily!)
